Green Mars 01 by Ludo38 Green Mars 01 by Ludo38
I just made this terraformed Mars globe on Gimp.
It's a slight mix between a high resolution photo of Mars and a photo of Earth, both public domain from NASA.
My intention is to show the Green stage of terraforming, in the spirit of Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson.
Enjoy the details :)
And Happy Christmas !!

In your opinion Ludo38. Is this what you believe mars would look like at the end of terraforming. I am writing a story which takes place on a terraformed mars and I want mars to differ greatly from earth. In a way I want it to still be considered "the red planet." I imagine it as still red but also slightly green. it is also a colder planet so tropics wouldn't exist. It would be a planet of rolling plains and temperate forests. What do you think?

I agree with you. I don't see terraformed Mars too blue like some have depicted it. This image here is the Green stage, but at the Blue Stage of terraforming, I wouldn't add too much blue to it. I like the idea that the red tone of the planet would keep very very present all along, not disappearing at all even after centuries of terraforming.

Yes, mars is half the size of earth, I wouldn't want water taking up the whole planet. I don't know what would really happen. But from a fictional standpoint I would imagine mars with one major ocean. The one in your picture is near identical to my imagination. I haven't read the mars trilogy, but I will have to. Just tell me, do you think the poles or at least one would be similar to ours? ice ridden lands that turn to large boreal forests farther south? This plays a big part in my story and I would like to have this sorted to be as realistic as possible. Thanks.

Yes, the poles would surely look like that of Earth. I highly recommend you to read the Mars Trilogy ASAP, it's a mind-blowing read, it teaches a lot on Mars and much much more.
Best luck on your project!
